Newar London - Bamboo Fashion Brand
Brief: Create a bamboo-based fashion brand that has an idea and a back story, consider its visual identity, social media and in-store presence. Show a brand that can live in the real world and be something that people will want to have. Newar creates its clothing through sustainable, naturally occurring bamboo forests. Naturally harvested by locals in Nepal. At the heart of Newar’s brand is their trade not aid philosophy for a long term partnership.
Bamboo is distributed widely across Nepal and is used in almost all aspects of life from construction, marriage and livelihood to death. The use of bamboo, however, has only been subsistence and the modern market is not developed. With the growing demand for sustainable clothing, abundant availability of the resources, vast traditional knowledge base and cultural affinity of this material in Nepal, we found that there was a great potential to contribute to the people’s livelihood.
