Washed Out
Brief: Help solve an issue you are passionate about; identify an area in need of change and look for a solution. Concept: This project explores the environmental impact of the fashion industry. My research found that 25% of a garment's carbon footprint comes from the way that we care for it. On top of that, 90% of our clothing is thrown away before it needs to be, due to our culture of ‘fast fashion’ and bad laundry habits. This project focused on educating consumers about the circular fashion principle of ‘use, wash and repair with care’ to prolong the life of garments.
Outcome: ‘Washed Out’ is a free newspaper that aims to educate and inspire fashion-conscious females to look after their clothes. The newspaper format was selected so that users could reuse the pages to fold their clothes, dry out wet shoes and recycle when they are finished.
